IKO IKO's Workshop II: Felting!

IKO IKO
presents
FELT IT: a workshop on the ancient process of felting wool
saturday, july 19, 1-4 pm
The day following the opening of the new installation Dependent- Arising and Part I- Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species at IKO IKO, artist Ashley Helvey led a felting wool workshop to a small group of curious ladies where we leaned one of the earliest textile forms.
All the wool was purchased from the Stonehaven Farm in Oregon. Our fleeces were from some very beautiful Shetland sheep named Bess and Cascadia.

IKO IKO's Workshop I: Ikebana!

Pictures from IKO IKO’s first Ikebana workshop led by Ohara School level III Master Yumiko Kikkawa.
Yumiko presented a brief history of the practice in Japan and talked about the many different schools active here in the United States today. She did three advanced demonstration arrangements, candidly explaining the relationship of color, the importance of the line and structure of the flowers when arranging and how to let the flowers “talk to you.” After instructing the parameters of the basic Rising Form arrangement, everyone set off to make their composition.

IKEBANA at IKO IKO

IKO IKO
presents
IKEBANA: the way of flowers
A demonstration and workshop introducing the art of Japanese flower arrangement
Yumiko Kikkawa, a Master III instructor of the Ohara School will be performing three demonstrations and leading the instruction. Participants will learn how to create the Hana-isho Basic Rising Form arrangement.
Ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arrangement) is one of the many traditional arts of Japan and is over 600 years old. The Ohara School was founded during the middle of the Meiji Period (1868-1911) and is comprised of four forms of ikebana: Hana-isho, Moribana, Heika, and Hanamai.
This particular workshop will be introducing the Basic Hana-isho Form, which provides the elementary knowledge and techniques of Hana-isho as well as the fundamentals of Ohara ikebana as a whole. The Basic Hana-isho compositions are simple and encourage the individuality of the arranger.
This is a wonderful introduction to ikebana and a chance to learn something new!
